Now
What I'm working on this month. This page updates when the work changes (a /now page in the Derek Sivers tradition). Last updated May 2026.
Writing
- Business Associations: Law in Theory and Practice (Aspen Press, forthcoming 2027). Manuscript title locked. Cite-check pass and final DOCX conversion remain. Companion site at oranburg.law/BA.
- Legitimate University Governance (Dartmouth Law Review, forthcoming). Round 2.8 of editorial revision closed in mid-May; cite-check punch list queued.
- Replacing Howey with CLARITY (Review of Banking & Financial Law, Boston University, forthcoming). Round 2 returned to the journal in mid-May; cite-check return is the next touch.
- SCFA (Mercer Law Review fit-check submitted; Vol. 78 Issue 1A). Article carries a speech-vs-conduct through-line and is awaiting editorial response.
Teaching
- Closing out the spring semester at UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law.
Public commentary
- Recent op-eds on the CLARITY Act (Washington Reporter), local zoning bureaucracy against religious communities (Daily Caller), and stablecoin policy.
- Continuing service on the New Hampshire Commission to Study Stable Tokens.
Side projects
- The Knight RUP restoration: a crowdsourced cleanup of Frank Knight's Risk, Uncertainty and Profit (1921), aiming to produce the canonical free digital edition.
- Companion sites for Contract Law, Business Associations, and Judgment Proof.
Reading and thinking
Frank Knight on risk and uncertainty. Maimonides on tikkun ha-guf and tikkun ha-nefesh, the two purposes of law. The institutional design literature on self-perpetuating boards. The Wyoming, Tennessee, and Utah DAO statutes.
